Make your own healthy strawberry shake that is also vegan and paleo!
Last week I was so incredibly proud of myself. Of course I’ll tell you why.
I went out for coffee, and did not order a cappuccino, but strawberry shake.
And now you’re like:
“Wow I’ll never get those 2 seconds back.”
…..
Pretending I didn’t hear that.
Now why was I so proud of myself? Was this strawberry shake healthy? Don’t think so.
My best guess on the ingredients: strawberries, banana, cream, milk, ice cream and a dash of cocaine.
It was addictive.
I finished it in 37 seconds & then had a sore throat.
…boring story continues…
The reason I was proud was because it wasn’t coffee. Anything I order that is not coffee makes me incredibly happy and proud.
But I had a new addiction. And this one was not only unhealthy, but in my cheap opinion too expensive.
So I had to DIY it that same day.
I had some soaked almonds, a banana and some strawberries. And vanilla. I know from the past that these four can do magic together.
And oops, they did it again.
Because this healthy strawberry banana shake (or smoothie or whatever) is filled with antioxidants, fiber, good fats and has no cocaine or other unhealthy stuff in there!
And it’s paleo, vegan & gluten-free.
Which as we know makes every recipe perfect.
I’m just kidding, I don’t care if a recipe is any of these things. But this one happens to be all three.
And it’s ready in 5 minutes.
Okay, a quick note: I used whole, soaked almonds in this and water / not nut milk (I discovered I don’t like nut milks). Instead you can also use almond butter (would be 3 tbsp) and almond milk – this will make it creamier.
Plus you’ll save yourself some pre-blending of the almonds.
Alright now on to the recipe.
Easy & Healthy Paleo Strawberry Shake
Inactive Time 8 minutes Total Time 8 minutes
Ingredients
- 1 banana
- 1 cup strawberries
- 1/3 cup almonds, soaked
- some vanilla
Instructions
- Put all ingredients in your blender and blend with water or almond milk until smooth. I used 2/3 cups of water in this and blended for 2-3 minutes. But the amount of liquid and time blending depends on the type of blender you have and the thickness of the shake you’d like to achieve. Definitely safe to start with 1/2 cup liquid and adjust later.
Notes
In case you’re using raw soaked almonds (not almond butter) – you can pre blend them with the bananas using a hand blender to get a very creamy consistency. I didn’t pre blend mine this time and the shake had some chunks in there, which I actually liked – but something to keep in mind. This depends on your blender though (mine isn’t fancy).
You could also use natural almond butter instead – 3 tbsp should be alright.
