If you want to lose weight, tomorrow morning is a great time to start! Here are five awesome morning habits to include in your morning routine, so you can lose weight and feel great while doing it.

Snooze, get a coffee and a croissant and off to see what happened to my inbox at work. Well, this has been my morning routine for years, and I’m quite sure it still is for many, many people.

Too bad, because if you want to make a positive change in your life, the morning is the best place to start. I found I can actually develop a healthy habit easier if I do it in the morning. Not only does a good habit improve my whole day, but I’m just more likely to do it. It’s way too early to make excuses.

When it comes to weight loss, here are 5 morning habits to include in your morning routine, so you lose weight long-term and feel great.

5 Simple Morning Habits To Lose Weight

1. Setting an intention

Having an intention for the day is super important when you want to make a change in your life. It’s not enough to say once you want that change, you need to remind yourself every day and decide what step you can take today to make it happen. Decide to be good to yourself and your health today and set a healthy intention.

It can be something specific like: “Today I will have a salad and a smoothie”, or “I will walk to work, instead of driving” or something more general like: “I will do the best for my body today”. You can also write your intention down. I do this on a post-it and then put it at my desk, so I can see it.

2. But first water

The second habit is to drink water right after you wake up. Your body needs water for everything. It’s such an underestimated tip and I must admit I ignored it for the longest time. It’s just too simple. But it works. Put a glass and a water pitcher filled with water on your night stand in the evening. Then in the morning drink a glass of water and see how you feel.

For me drinking water after I wake up is very energizing and also helps me decide whether I feel hungry or not. In case I don’t – I don’t force feed myself. Whether you add some lemon juice to your water or not – is completely up to you! My choice is no lemon, because I don’t like lemon on an empty stomach, but everyone is different.

3. Exercise or go out for a walk

The next morning habit to help you lose weight and make you feel great is to exercise or to go out for a walk in the morning. You will burn calories, but also just feel better about yourself. More accomplished, which will then help you make better choices later in the day.

For this habit you’ll need some comfortable shoes and 20-30 minutes! It’s a very rewarding habit. Working out in the morning will ensure you do your workouts no matter what happens the rest of the day.

4. Breakfast

Breakfast is super important. But if you’re not hungry right after you wake up – drink some water, do your exercises and then see when you get hungry. That’s the time to have breakfast. Best breakfast choice for weight loss according to research is cereal (or some healthy carbs).

Whole grains are a good choice since they will fill you up, so you have more energy throughout the morning without feeling heavy. This way you can also make better choices at lunch and for snacks. I like oats, but if you need some diversity, there are other easy breakfast recipes that can help you lose weight.

5. Prep your lunch

Last but not least, make sure you eat healthier for the rest of the day by prepping your lunch and snacks. That’s right. I don’t do that on Sunday. I actually take around 10 minutes in the morning to make myself a fresh salad, a sandwich or if I have leftovers from dinner – I grab and go. All you need is a good lunch container. Also pack some snacks. Here are 15 healthy snack ideas you can try.

Alright, guys! So these are the 5 healthy habits that can be really helpful when it comes to weight loss. Remember these only work if you do them consistently, but don’t beat yourself up if you fall off the wagon. Just get back on it and you’ll reach your destination.
