This green kale smoothie with banana and strawberries is refreshing, delicious, and a great healthy breakfast idea or super healthy snack!

There. I made a healthy smoothie I never thought I’d make – a green smoothie with kale. KALE!

Who am I? A Kardashian? I actually have no idea who’s cool right now, and I’ve never watched The Kardashians, so no idea whether they drink kale smoothies.

However. This smoothie = GOOOOOD.

Kale has never been on my grocery list for a few reasons. First of all – all the hype. I don’t like that it’s so famous, I like underdogs. Undervegetables. Like nettle or that dirt cheap forgotten cabbage.

Also kale – I thought it was going to be too bitter and unpleasant to eat.

You know what changed my mind? Kale was on SALE. Don’t pretend you don’t see that rhymes, so well. Jay Z, you can have that line. You’re welcome. (I’d so be crapping my pants if he actually read this).

Anyway, my motto in life is: If something’s on sale – GET IT! You don’t need it and it’s on sale – GET IT! You need it and it’s on sale – GET MORE OF IT.

So you see I had to. I bought it and to my surprise, kale – not that bad. Not bad at all actually. I used it in these tuna wraps and then I made a few smoothies with it.

I liked it. Will I buy it again? Yes, if it’s on sale. A kale sale.

But let’s get back to this smoothie, because it’s really good, really healthy and it can actually detox and support fat oxidation – aka it can burn fat and support your liver to get rid of toxins more efficiently.

looks poop-y here, but tastes really good

3 Reasons To Add Kale To Your Smoothies

  • Protein. Kale is one of the most nutrient-dense foods out there and it’s full of protein. In fact it’s one of the top 15 low-carb high-protein vegan foods out there.
  • Fiber – improves digestion, keeps you full and helps you lose weight.
  • Vitamin C: important for burning fat, your immune system and healthy skin. It’s best to get that vitamin C from food and not from supplements, because you’ll get some additional health benefits and the dosage will be just right for your needs (we don’t absorb vitamin C too well at higher dosages). So in this case strawberries and kale make all the difference.

Benefits Of This Kale Smoothie:

  • detoxifying
  • anti-inflammatory
  • rich in antioxidants
  • alkaline

This smoothie will be suitable for most diets, because it’s vegan, gluten-free and paleo! Drink it a few times a week, you’ll feel good.

More Notes On This Kale Smoothie

If you’re just starting out with green smoothies, feel free to use less kale, because the taste might be too much for you. In this smoothie I didn’t taste it as much, but I made another one with a little bit more and I really noticed it and did not like it. AT ALL.

Important: For whatever reason, I like this smoothie best with frozen strawberries, not fresh – it gets creamier and is much more refreshing. Sometimes I’d chop and freeze the banana ahead as well – makes a huge difference in the texture.

Me holding the kale smoothie with one hand and taking pictures with my other hand that is very shaky
